Cangqiao Straight Street is located in the historical block of the Yue Wang City in Zhejiang Shaoxing with a total length of 1.5 kilometers and it is in the east side of Fushan Mountain. It is a historical and cultural street which takes the traditional local-style dwelling houses as the main connotation of residential and combines living, business and tourism as a whole. It also won the “Regional Heritage Protection Award in the Asia-Pacific Region” from United Nations, calling it a "living display of Chinese heritage".
The old street mainly consists of three parts: river channel, folk house and stone road. The Zhonghuanshan River in the old street is an important historical relic of the Yue Wang City which is located at the center line of the old street. It starts from West Shengli Road in the north and reaches to West Luxun Road in the south with the total length of 2.2 kilometers. From north to south, it has the traditional ancient masonry bridges such as Cang Bridge, Longmen Bridge, Baozhu Bridge, Fu Qiao, Shimen Bridge, Jiuwu Bridge, Xiguan Bridge and Fengyi Bridge which increases the atmosphere of the water city.
There are mainly riverside houses on the both side of the river and there is a small river port in the backyard of each family, which is the typical pattern of "one river and five streets" in Shaoxing. Most of them were built in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, among which there were 43 platform doors in different kinds, which centrally reflects the traditional architectural features and customs of Shaoxing. There are a lot of traditional stores and restaurants on both side of the street. In order to let visitors learn about customs of Shaoxing as much as possible, the local authorities also open the Yue Art Museum Rice Wine Pavilion, Drama Pavilion, Painting Pavilion, Calligraphy Museum and others in the streets.
